Football is my first love, and while I’ve since hung up my own helmet, I’ve continued to follow football with near-religious fervor. I kept meticulous instructions to my brothers on the upkeep of my UI Vandals shrine back home and set up another one in my apartment room. Besides the Vandals, I also root for the Seahawks on the National Football Conference.
As much as I love the sport of gridiron, it was my fascination with buildings, bridges, and other structures that would ultimately set the course I want to go down. I was drawn to the sophisticated science and art behind the way structures are built, and as much as I loved watching the games, I ultimately felt like I belonged to the teams that built the stadiums they were playing on. Even today, I sometimes go a-wiki-walking, learning new things about engineering mega-projects past and present.
One thing both of those passions had was that they made excellent use of my adeptness at math. I was the go-to guy to help people with algebra homework way back, and I still make a bit of extra cash by tutoring high school on their math homework. Statistics, however, was the one that I most passionate about. The spreadsheet knowhow I cultivated in high school was put to good use then and now. Once a tool for tracking personal and team performance, they eventually came to good use when I started playing fantasy sports a few months ago.
Sketch comedy shows are my other favorite time waster, and there’s nothing I love more than binge-watching old and new favorites. Favorites include SNL (the classic episodes, in particular), Studio C, and old classics like Monty Python and MadTV. A few of my other favorite things to binge-watch include Oscar-bait drama movies and action flicks.
